When people ask what community means, the answers are endless. Some picture shared gardens and big tables filled with food. Others think of rules, meetings and shared chores. At Ecovilla, community feels different. It’s gentle. It’s real. It’s something that happens naturally between people who choose to live aligned with themselves, with nature and with each other. It’s the kind of place where you wake up to the sound of howler monkeys, step outside barefoot, (maybe head to a community workout), and feel peace knowing that your neighbors share a similar dream: to live a simpler, kinder and more conscious life.
Most of us didn’t come here looking for a commune. We came looking for balance. A place where we could be independent but not alone. A place surrounded by nature but still full of connection. And somehow, that is exactly what we found. Ecovilla attracts people from all over the world who share a quiet optimism about the future. People who believe in health, in cooperation, in raising children with curiosity and love. Here you can talk about composting, meditation, homeschooling or your dream for a better world, and someone will listen with genuine interest. You might even find a few others who have been thinking the same thing.
Together, but free
One of the most beautiful parts is the balance between being on your own and being with others. Some days you close your door, read a book (or focus on your work day!), take a solo walk in the jungle. Other days you step outside and realize there’s a yoga class happening nearby, that someone is baking banana bread and sharing it, and the kids are playing freely running from door to door.
Nothing is planned too far ahead. Things just happen. Someone might say “come over for dinner” or “let’s meet at the pool in 10 minutes,” and suddenly there’s a small celebration.
It feels easy, spontaneous and human, the way community used to feel before life became so busy.
Over time, something beautiful has grown here: a gift economy that works from the heart. Nobody designed it. It simply appeared because people wanted to share what they love.
One neighbour offers Chi Gong classes. Another organizes health circles. Someone hosts a potluck, or a jazz singer invites everyone to a playful singing workshop. Herbalists share remedies, and parents swap ingredients from their pantry.
People give what they want to give and receive what they need. There’s a sense of abundance that comes from knowing that everyone contributes in their own way. And it’s genuinely so awesome to be learning from each other and growing together!
Raising children, raising each other
When you walk around Ecovilla in the afternoon, you’ll see children from all over the world running barefoot, laughing and switching between languages as they play. The river, the pool, the trampoline, the playground, the shala… their options for fun are basically endless.
With more than 43 nationalities represented, there isn’t one single culture here. We are creating it together every day. That diversity enriches us and teaches our children to grow up open-minded and compassionate.
Many residents say that living here feels like being on retreat, but without having to leave home. The air, the food and the water feel cleaner. The pace is slower. And there’s always something nourishing happening.
A new way of living together
Ecovilla is a reminder that community doesn’t have to mean giving up privacy or comfort. It means choosing connection, generosity and respect. It means creating a lifestyle that is good for our health, our children and the planet.
Little by little, we are showing that another way of living is not only possible, it’s already happening.
If this vision resonates with you, come see it for yourself. to experience the rhythm of our days.
