About
Ecovilla San Mateo
Ecovilla San Mateo is our most ambitious eco-community project to date. The land is ten times bigger than the original La Ecovilla, with prime amenities, lush nature crossed by the magical Machuca river. Located in Costa Rica’s fruit-growing region with amazing weather, and only 10 minutes from the original La Ecovilla. Just 45 minutes from the capital San Jose, one hour from the airport, and less than 40 minutes from the beach.
Here, children grow up exploring nature, switching languages and learning in natural, playful ways. Parents share ideas on holistic health, outdoor activities and impact projects. Workshops, yoga, music, potlucks and spontaneous gatherings fill everyday life.
Today, Ecovilla San Mateo is becoming a global reference for regenerative living. It inspires developers worldwide to rethink how we build, live and connect. Visitors often say: “It feels like stepping into another dimension.”
For us, that’s exactly what it is: a parallel universe showing what’s possible when people live in harmony with themselves, each other and nature.
Life at
Ecovilla San Mateo
At Ecovilla San Mateo, community life unfolds across spaces designed to connect, play and create. Our shared sport park brings the community together for tennis, padel, pickleball, soccer, basketball or a swim in the 25-meter pool.
The Art Village is a place for music, arts and performance. A creative hub where inspiration flows freely.The River Park invites us to swim, relax and reconnect with nature in its crystal-clear swimming holes. The 300 acres of nature reserve surrounds the residential area. Here we enjoy 25 kilometers of walking trails winding through jungle and mountains.
The residential area is composed of six neighborhoods, each with 40 to 50 homes and its own shared common area. Each neighborhood was designed as a place where connection comes easily, and privacy and community coexist in harmony.

Each neighborhood in Ecovilla San Mateo has their own shared spaces. We call them our common areas. It’s a central place in each neighborhood, where neighbors can meet, share experiences, work out and connect during potluck dinners, parties or gatherings.
