What is Ecovilla?
Ecovilla is a regenerative community in Costa Rica, built around a simple yet revolutionary idea: that people and the planet can thrive together.
We buy land that had previously been ecologically impacted with the intention of regenerating it. How? Mainly by planting thousands of trees (including lots of fruit trees that we can savour later!) to bring life back to the land, and by building everything else with a regenerative mindset. Keeping the fauna and flora in mind with each design, each rule, each choice. Creating a living place where, for once, humans can live in nature without being detrimental to it. Giving more than what we take.
Another Planet… Inhabited by Like-minded People
Do you often feel like the odd one? Like… you’re the only one in your friend’s group who insists to feed real food to their children? Who doesn’t feel fulfilled by compulsive shopping or binge drinking? Or, even worse… who’s actually dreaming of a better future?
If you’re lucky, you are already surrounded by some like-minded souls whom make your life truly more enjoyable. However, even in that case, chances are that your environment doesn’t fully support you.
It is so hard to live in alignment when you’re disconnected from nature and your schedule is go-go-go. And it’s even tougher when you feel alone in this.
Yeah, there’s a better way. There are families from dozens of countries who decided they didn’t want to keep living the way they had been. They decided to come together and create, on a small scale, a much better world.
Here, children grow up exploring nature, switching between languages, and learning in ways that feel natural and playful. Parents share ideas about holistic health, outdoor activities and impact projects. There are workshops, yoga classes, music sessions, potlucks and spontaneous gatherings happening all the time. The food is fresh and nourishing, much of it grown in or around San Mateo.
Everyone gives what they want to give, and everyone is invited to receive. There’s no pressure, just a gentle rhythm of living fully, learning from each other, and growing side by side in a community that really feels like home.
Each person who joins Ecovilla brings a piece of the puzzle: families, elders, entrepreneurs, artists, architects, healers, doers. Together, we’re building a model for how life could look when guided by connection, purpose and respect for the Earth.
